Valerie Thomas
- Valerie was not encouraged to explore science
- When she was 8 years old, Valerie borrowed The Boy’s First Book of Electronics from the library
- Valerie’s school did not believe that girls should study maths or science beyond a basic level
- Valerie went on to study Physics, she excelled at this
- Once she had graduated she went to work at NASA helping to design key components for satellites
- She has contributed significantly to research on Halley’s Comet, the ozone layer and satellite technology
